We ‘ve had a pretty good week of fishing, but the weather has been a little flaky. Several fronts have come through this week with a strong one forecast to come through today. Water levels haven’t been adversely affected; the rivers and streams are fishable. We’ll see how they look tomorrow.
Hatches in the Smokies didn’t seem quite as good this week, but the fish are still rising and more than willing to take a nymph. We’ve probably got another week of Quill Gordons before they start to fizzle a little bit and other bugs start to hatch.
Tailwater fishing has been pretty good. The Clinch is still a little tricky for wading. Some days waders need to employ the “flip flop”, fishing near Clinton in the morning while water is low, then run upstream to the dam to catch low water there in the afternoon. Midges are still the main hatch on the Clinch and Holston.
