Up to this point there hasn’t been any tailwater fishing for wading fly fishers here in East Tennessee. Those with boats have experienced some good to excellent fishing on the Hiwassee, South Holston, and Watauga Rivers but the majority of anglers have been left to fish the mountains streams. Fortunately they’ve fished well and the scenery isn’t too shabby either.

Hatches continue to produce rising trout in all of the large streams throughout the Smokies. We’re beginning to see more small flies like Blue Quills, but larger Quill Gordons are still around. We’ll see them for another week or two before they fizzle out until next year, but Hendricksons, March Browns, and Light Cahills will start to show up in their place.
