Expect almost perfect conditions for fishing almost anywhere you go this holiday weekend. Water levels in the Smokies are excellent right now and TVA will be cutting generation back on the tailwaters.
If you’re heading into the Smoky Mountains for some fly fishing you’d be well served to avoid the most popular rivers and streams like Little River. Tubers, swimmers, and rock skippers will certainly be in all the roadside locations. Lesser known and visited streams will be the best bet, particularly on Saturday.
Hiking upstream is always a good idea and makes sense on one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Flows on the Clinch will be as good as we’ve seen in a while and could be the best we’ll see for a while so get out and make the most of it. Expect the normal recreational flow which calls for zero generation until 10:00 AM, 1 generator from 10:00 until 2:00, and 2 generators from 2:00 until 6:00. This allows for both waders and floaters to make a day of it. This schedule will be in effect through Monday the 4th.
