Fish are certainly moving in the streams up in the Smokies. Hatches aren’t rolling yet but nymphs are moving and fishing are pretty active in the afternoon.
Water temperatures are in the mid to upper 40’s and water levels are essentially where we expect them in mid February. The relatively mild winter we’ve had will almost certainly contribute to the hatches starting earlier than normal but not so early as last year.
Most years we’ll see the first hatches start around the first of March. Last year the first hatches started at the end of January.
