Our suggestion right now is to finish up your Christmas shopping and have another glass of eggnog because there’s not much point in heading out to the river for a couple of days.
Flows are high across East Tennessee and Western North Carolina and not really worth the effort for the time being. Those with boats could float the South Holston or Watauga, but those rivers are likely to be off color for at least a day or more. The Clinch and Holston… Don’t even think about it. The Hiwassee is more of a whitewater float (err… brownwater?) for the time being with extra water coming into the river on top of two generators.
Of course as we have a 20″ rain surplus this year in East Tennessee you might say we’re used to it by now, but we’re hoping for better conditions in 2014.
Remember you can check our Stream Flows page for a real time look at stream flows in the area.
