We ran across a pretty interesting article recently that we thought we’d share about wild brook trout. Wild trout fascinate us for a variety of reasons now we’ve found one more reason to be amazed with their abilities.
A researcher was able to tag and track 16 wild brook trout in Maryland’s Savage River. What he found was that the fish migrated extensively up and down the river over the course of a year and eventually ended right back where they started.
You can find the article here.
The Savage River is quite different from habitat in the Smokies and our fish are the Southern Appalachian sub-species of brook trout, but it’s still something to think about. Cool stuff!
