It’s been a bumpy ride so far this spring. The weather always has its ups and downs along with stream flows. Fishing has been the same; some days spectacular and other days….. meh. But the important thing is spring is here and so is the fishing!
We’ve had a few high water problems in the Smokies, but those never last very long as stream flows fall in line pretty quickly. We’ve had some great dry fly fishing but we’re still keeping some nymphs handy and catching plenty on bottom. That’s especially true up until the afternoon when the best dry fly fishing has been happening.
The tailwater situation around here remains uncertain at best. The Clinch has finally come around to a flow low enough for us to consider taking people fishing. The Holston continues to run high from heavy rains over the winter season. We’re really hoping things get in shape soon as our float season last year was highly abbreviated due to high flows. Just to clear, that only seems to be on the river systems around Knoxville as the Watauga and South Holston a few hours north seem to have great flows.
In the interim we’ll keep fishing the bushy dry flies to beautiful trout in the Smokies.
You’ll probably also notice the new look to our website as we’ve optimized it for mobile devices. Our online booking service has also had a major update. We’re glad both are done, but to completely honest we became fly fishing guides so we wouldn’t have to mess with computers. Somehow along the way we became responsible for a website and several social media feeds. Get me back on the river!
