Townsend Elementary School has been involved with Trout in the Classroom for about five years. Every spring there’s a huge field trip where the kids get to release the trout in Little River here in Townsend, then go up into the national park to see fisheries biologists and entomologists in action.
The Little River Chapter of Trout Unlimited provided the aquarium and chiller for the classroom. TWRA donates rainbow trout eggs and the children raise the trout following guidelines and assistance from Trout Unlimited volunteers.
Unfortunately the trip was cancelled this year. School is out of session due to the Covid-19 outbreak so we released the fish. We videoed the whole thing so the kids could see their trout swim into the river.
