Eric Wetherington shows off a 16″ rainbow trout he caught on a float trip with a #16 Zelon Nymph. Things actually started off pretty slow and while we had a few rising fish, it wasn’t as many as I’d seen only a couple of days earlier. The afternoon session got pretty hot and heavy with a good nymph bite. In fact, if the morning was half as good as the afternoon Eric would have been truly spoiled.
Tailwater flows are still in great shape. It looks as if waders will need to pay attention on the Clinch since TVA is running a couple of hours mid-day with one generator, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Waders can find low water somewhere on the river with that schedule plus it’s a better situation for floaters as well.
Having a little more water in the river will benefit all including the fish. Fishing is always better with a gradual rise and fall like you get with this flow.
