Here’s some video we’re pretty proud of. These are spawning brook trout in Lynn Camp Prong in the Smokies. This stream was restored with native brook trout a few years ago but is still closed to fishing while populations rebound. Looks like these fish are doing their part to boost the population! Smoky Mountain Elk and Photographer Butt Heads
We posted this video yesterday to Twitter and our Facebook page but thought it would be a good addition to the blog as well. The video is from Cataloochee Valley and looks like it’s very close to where Palmer Fork and Rough Fork join to form Cataloochee creek near the church. This video probably won’t […]
Spawning Brook Trout in the Smoky Mountains
There’s nothing that says fall in the Smokies like spawning brook trout. We noticed this pair of fish while out taking a hike yesterday. As you can see they are in their brightest “fall color”.
Video: Fly Fishing for Large Brown Trout in the Smokies In Fall
Here’s our latest video and we don’t mind saying we’re pretty fond of this one. Anyone who has spent any time fly fishing in the Smokies will know that it’s pretty unusual to catch large brown trout. We’re as competent as they come with a fly rod, but the added difficulty of getting it on […]
Blast From the Past
A few days ago we saw this video over on Chi Wulff and it was almost like having your life flash before your eyes as this was almost ten years ago. Ian had two books published in two years closely followed by the release of the Fly Fishing Eastern Freestone Streams pair of DVD’s. We […]
Blooming Mountain Laurel in the Smoky Mountains
Here’s another two minute Smoky Mountain break from the Smoky Mountains Association. It’s summer in the Smokies and there’s no better time to beat the heat than by heading to the high ridges and peaks where temperatures rarely see 80 degrees. The Secret Life of Cicadas
Here’s a pretty nifty video we found about cicadas we thought we’d share. Some folks have asked us about them, but we don’t get this variety around the Smokies although we have heard about them in other areas of the Southeast. This video was put together by Samuel Orr and he has a Kickstarter campaign […]
Hidden Rivers: Vibrant Rivers of Southern Appalachia
Here’s a cool video we recently found that highlights the incredible diversity of life in our rivers in the Southeast. This is a trailer for a forthcoming series. Looks good!
Video of a Hatching Dragonfly
Every once in a while you hit it just right. I was guiding a pair of fly fishers on Little River last week when I noticed a dragonfly nymph crawling up a rock. I pointed it out to my anglers, took a few photographs and even a few seconds of video. At that moment it […]
A Look at Little River Trail in Spring
Here’s a nice video produced by the Smoky Mountain Association that shows the Little River upstream of Elkmont, or as we call it, “the office”. Enjoy!
