We had some big weather move through yesterday with high winds and heavy rain. Winds on the mountain tops were generally in the 50 mph range with a few gusts recorded around 90 mph. It all finished with cold weather and a dusting of snow.
Video Fishing Report – Late November in the Smokies and the Clinch River
It’s been beautiful if not a bit cooler for the last couple of weeks here in the Smoky Mountains and East Tennessee. We’ve got another good video fishing report from the stream to share. It’s pretty tough to guide from the drift boat and get much in the way of good video, particularly on a […]
Video Fishing Report – Smoky Mountains & Clinch River
We’ve been out on the water quite a bit over the past couple of weeks and had some great opportunities to get some excellent video of fishing and spawning brown trout in the Smoky Mountains. We also elaborate more on our last post regarding the Clinch River. You’ll see some excellent video from the Clinch. […]
Video Fishing Report – Fall Fishing in the Smokies
Fishing has been great through October. We’ve been floating some on the Clinch plus rounding out the smallmouth bass season on the Holston and Pigeon Rivers. But it’s the Smoky Mountains where we’ve spent the majority of our time. Fall color has been superb and the dry fly fishing has rivaled what we experience in […]
Video Fishing Report from Upper Little River
After almost two months of guiding nearly every day, it was just nice to take a hike along the river. It’s not that Charity and I don’t want to fish or get tired of it. Sometimes it’s just nice to take in the sights, sounds, and smell of the river and the forest and not […]
A Great Weekend of Fly Fishing on Hazel Creek
Our entire guide line up spent the weekend on Hazel Creek with a group of anglers from Ohio. The weather was absolutely perfect on Thursday and Friday. Things got pretty wet on Saturday, but the good fishing continued. Overall, most of the fish our group caught was on nymphs, but my anglers had a good […]
Video Fishing Report – Quill Gordon Hatch in the Smoky Mountains
It’s been another week of good mayfly hatches in the Smoky Mountains and midge fishing on the tailwaters. Fishing continues to be spotty on the Clinch River with slow periods broken up by several minutes of really good activity. It doesn’t seem like there has been very much insect activity on the Clinch so that […]
Video Fishing Report – We Fly Fish in the Snow Once Again
It looks like winter didn’t really go away so much as give us a quick head fake before charging right back into our fly fishing in the Smokies. Yesterday was a relatively miserable kind of day; cold, wet, and snowy. The water was a little high after rain on Sunday. I was actually expecting a […]
Excellent Weather, Spring Hatches, and Spawning Rainbow Trout
Spring weather is certainly here, but there is still a good deal of snow on the ground in shaded areas of the Smokies. Regardless, the sun was shining, the weather was warm, and the tailwaters even had favorable generation schedules. We’re still waiting for the hatches to get started in the Smokies, but the rainbow […]
Advice from the Guides Video – Fly Fishing with Nymphs & Strike Indicators in Mountain Streams
Here’s the latest installment of our Advice from the Guides Video Blog. This month we focus on nymph fishing. It’s not hard, but it’s a subject we spend a lot of time helping anglers to improve. The video for this segment was taken during the winter on Little River and the Middle Prong of Little […]
