We had pretty cool weather in the Smokies over the 4th of July weekend. It was perfect on Saturday with sunny skies and temperatures that ranged from the mid 70’s to low 80’s depending on the exact location in the Smokies.
We had scattered rain showers on Sunday and the weather was pretty cool. In fact, a long sleeve shirt would have been comfortable as there was a constant mist on the water and the sun rarely came out. We hooked a few fish on dry flies but did better on nymphs. A dropper rig with a #14 Stimulator and a #16 BH Pheasant Tail was nearly perfect.
We tried some terrestrials, but they just don’t seem to be near as effective in damp conditions. They should work much better as things dry out and temperatures are forecast to be warmer as the week progresses.
Lost & Found Department
I found a pretty nice net on Little River today upstream of Elkmont. If you think it’s yours or you know someone who lost a net there give us a shout. Give us a description and we’ll be sure you get it if it’s yours.
