Fly Fishing at the End of the World
Patagonia in Argentina with Ian & Charity
February 24 – March 6, 2027, 9 days, 10 nights in Patagonia
Our 2026 trip to Argentina was a raging success and we’re going back! The trip is spread across three different lodges in three separate locations.
We’ll cover lots of water from Valle Carrileufu Lodge in the north, down to the spectacular El Encuentro Lodge, plus the phenomenal Brook Trout Base Camp high on a plateau in the Andes.

This is a fun itinerary that takes us from the small town of Cholila in the north all the way down to the high plains of the Corcovado Plateau and everything in between. The area around Cholila is Butch Cassidy country where the outlaw fled and lived out his last days. The Rio Carrileufu and surrounding streams and lakes are full are heavy rainbow and brown trout. This is also in the vicinity of internationally known Los Alerces National Park.
El Encuentro feels like a scene straight out of the Lord of the Rings. It’s perched above the teal waters of the Rio Granded surrounded by snowcapped peaks. Furthermore, there is an impressive garden that not only supplies vegetables to all the lodges we visit, but also features beautiful flowers.
Another stop (and personal favorite of ours) is the Brook Trout Base Camp. It features a rustic-but-elegant “glamping” experience. Sleeping accommodations are tastefully designed small casitas, just steps from the murmuring river. Each accommodation is equipped with two twin or one king bed, a private bath with plenty of hot water, electric lights, screened and shaded windows, and a propane heater.
Meals are prepared and served in a spacious dining tent, well-appointed with sofas and two wood stoves, featuring local ingredients produce from our gardens at the main lodge, and creative cuisine that is easily on par with any first-rate lodge. It’s easy to forget you’re at a remote location in the wilderness.
Another important detail is that the same guides will be with us across all three lodges. We really build great friendships with these folks and have continued to stay in contact with them well after our trip.

Our intention is to provide the most magical, outstanding fly fishing trip possible.
Even as we will be moving between lodges, there will not be any days solely dedicated to travel once we are in Patagonia. Transfer days will entail driving away from the previous lodge, fishing for the day, then completing travel to the next lodge for the evening. We will be able to cover the most ground and have the most variety possible.
There are other activities if you don’t think you can fish for the entire time or have a non-angling companion who wants to come. This allows you to give yourself a break if necessary or just experience more of this incredible region. It’s a great trip and we can’t wait for you to join us!
