It was great to see the sun again! Took a guided trip for a hike away from the road. Saw some Hendricksons hatching today along with some brown stoneflies laying eggs. We used Haystacks and Guides’ Choice Parachute Adams in #14 most of the day.
Here’s to Improving Weather
It’s been a tough couple of days. The wind howled on Monday. Strong storms came in Monday night and a few local rivers were muddied as a result. I tried to float the Clinch Tuesday, but the combination of muddy water, steady rain, and gusty wind caused us to hit the eject button. The Smokies […]
The Spring Roller Coaster
It happens every year. We get the warm weather and great fishing that we waited for like kids counting the days until Christmas. After we get used to the idea of great weather and dry fly fishing you have to be careful. I’ve been on this spring roller coaster before and this is where I […]

Clinch River was a Tough Nut
Flows on the Clinch River finally dropped to a fishable level and while conditions weren’t what I’d term perfect, they were the best we’d seen in a while. Besides, the drift boat hasn’t seen much action this spring so I was eager to get back behind the oars after last week’s float on the Tuckaseegee. […]
Video Fishing Report: Early April 2011
We’ve had a wet spring in the Smoky Mountains and East Tennessee and this has led to a few days of blown out streams, but fishing has been excellent for the most part. The large tailwater rivers have been too high most of the time for effective fishing, but we have found a few […]
Volunteer Opportunities With Fisheries Biologists in the Great Smoky Mountains
Many of our customers are amazed at how much we know about the trout in the Smokies. We spend quite a bit of time fishing on the streams, but we’re also quick to point out that the time we spend helping fisheries biologists on the streams has added a tremendous amount to our knowledge. Every […]

Quick Pic: Tuckaseegee River Brown Trout
One of many brown trout that took a streamer when we floated the Tuckaseegee River near Dillsboro, NC. Most fish were in this size range along with a few rainbows and a couple of brook trout.
Guides’ Day Off
It wasn’t a full day on the water. We had a number of things to get done, but the weather was just too nice to let the whole afternoon slide by. Charity and I managed to squeak two hours out of our afternoon to run up to the river and took turns with the fly […]
